Centennial logo by Greg Olson. See story on page 2. Sturtevant 1892, the namesake of our outing destination, Wilbur Sturtevant, a civil war veteran, gold miner, mule packer, beekeeper, trail builder and sought after mountain guide, discovered an ideal spot for a trail camp shaded by a grove of big cone spruce, near the headwaters of Big Santa Anita Canyon. Over the ensuing years Sturtevant's Camp became one of the most popular destinations for trail weary hikers looking for a hot shower, a fine meal and a good night's rest in a warm cabin, serenaded to sleep by the tranquil sounds of a year round stream.
