Imagine crystals in the snow glinting like thousands of tiny diamonds beneath your skis. The sky is a perfect azure blue, wispy shreds of cotton high above. To your west is a magnificent view of the Minarets, their sharp dragon teeth partially covered in snow. To the east you can see 50 miles across the purple haze of the Owens valley to the White Mountains that actually sport a white coat during these winter months. The only sounds are your breath, the creak of fresh snow condensing under your weight with each advancing step, and the sharp alert cry of a Nuthatch. Look closer at the snow and you'll recognize small footprints surrounding the base of many trees left by weasels and rabbits. Perhaps you'll get lucky and see some bigger prints; a black bear awoken from his slumber.
