The Angeles Chapter Legal Committee serves as a pool of pro-bono legal resources providing advice and legal assistance to Chapter conservation activists. We also provide legal information to our Chapter through events and newsletters.

Some of the activities the Legal Committee has participated in during 2010 are a lawsuit against Orange County seeking to compel production of computer mapping data under the Public Records Act (in cooperation with the GIS Committee), support of Community Alliance's appeal of the zoning variance granted to the Lopez Canyon Landfill, advice to the ExCom on litigation issues, and continuing support and advice to the Conservation Committee on various legal issues.

Support to other Chapter activists has included sponsoring a workshop on California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA), Global Warming, and Endangered Species for legal activists (the third in a series), and a fall workshop on the developing law regarding trees. Several articles were published in the Southern Sierran on legal topics and activities as well. Our plans for 2011 are to continue to support the Chapter committees' legal needs and to continue to provide assistance to Chapter activists through further events and publications.
