In 2010 we focused on opposing Props 16, 23 and 26 by making presentations, placing phone calls, and distributing literature.

We help support the efforts of the Beyond Coal Campaign to get the LA Department of Water and Power (LADWP) be Coal-Free by 2020 and provided comments on the LADWP Long Range Plans, as well as the Feed-in Tariff Plan and Solar PV Incentives Program. Supporting reduction sulfur emissions from refineries, the committee commented on South Coast Air Quality Management District plans. Committee chair wrote a paper analyzing how to reduce methane production at landfills.

The Chapter's Orange County Global Warming Committee completed its 'Juicing Orange County' analysis of city's green practices and will work with cities to make further improvements in 2011.

For 2011, the Committee plans to continue supporting getting LA and Orange Counties off coal and on renewable energy as rapidly as possible. We need more members involved in pushing their local cities to go green. We also need more public speaking opportunities. For more info, please contact chair Jim Stewart or 213-820-4345.
