Are you in need of some mental stimulus? Then join the Natural Science Section/Angeles Chapter for a weekend of discovery, June 12-14, 2009, at the 38th annual "Nature Knowledge Workshop". This outdoor educational event, which is held at a resident camp in the San Bernardino Mountains, offers a variety of natural history workshops in subjects such as insects, geology, botany, mammals, birds, and Native American studies. Anyone who has a curiosity about the natural environment will benefit from this weekend of instruction from our informative naturalists who are college professors, authors and scientists. In addition to the workshops we'll explore three different habitats with walks along the Santa Ana River, the pine forests and montane scrub/chaparral. There will also be a moonlight hike which is an experience in itself. In these hard economic times why not enjoy a "staycation" in our local mountains amongst nature. The only gear you need to bring is a sleeping bag, a flashlight, personal items and your willingness to learn. Food (we can accommodate vegetarians), lodging and instruction are included in the price. To register send two self-addressed stamped envelopes (or E-mail address) with home & work numbers, names of all participants and a check payable to "Sierra Club, NSS" for $138 with SC# or $158 for non-members to our reservationist, Ginny Heringer, at 245 San Miguel Road, Pasadena, CA 91105 (626-793-4727.) Participants must be 13 years or older (under 18 must be accompanied by adult). LTC credit is available for participants obtaining their official leadership rating. Reservation deadline: June 1, 2009. Reservation forms available at NSS website: angeles.sierraclub.org/nss. For more information contact leader: Liana Argento – lianaargento@hotmail.com or 310-370-2950.
