PROGRESS MADE IN FIGHT FOR GRIFFITH PARK’S HISTORICAL MONUMENT STATUS

BY Joe Young

On Tuesday, January 13, 2009 the Planning and Land Use Management Committee of the Los Angeles City Council approved the application to designate Griffith Park as a cultural, historical monument in the City of Los Angeles. The application, filed on behalf of the Griffith Family Trust, had earlier been approved by the City’s Cultural Heritage Commission.

The application must now be approved by the full Los Angeles City Council. The City Council is expected to vote on the matter within a month.

The Sierra Club strongly endorses Cultural Historical designation for Griffith Park.
