Turn the Economic Stimulus into an Environmental Stimulus

As the Sierra Club Angeles Chapter strives to keep environmental issues in the forefront of our local and national elected officials, we have all been shocked and frustrated by obstructions from the Bush Administration. But now they have handed us a perfect and poetic opportunity: most Americans will be receiving an ³economic stimulus² check from the federal government in the next few months worth $600 or more. After seven years of environmental rollbacks, I hope you consider a bold move ­ use this unexpected windfall to support our collective efforts to protect and preserve our beautiful open spaces for this and future generations.

The members of the Angeles Chapter have long held to the belief that when we take a stance we create change. And we are very good at taking a stance. What a wonderful opportunity to give back to the environment through the very same administration that turned its back on the environment. By using these ³economic stimulus² funds to support the efforts of the Sierra Club Angeles Chapter, we are in fact creating the Œenvironmental stimulus² which has been ignored for far too long. Please be bold in your decision to spend this money wisely to fulfill our mission for exploring, enjoying, protecting, preserving, and restoring our planet.
