Chapter office seeks volunteers
Office hours are Monday through Friday, 10am to 6pm. Volunteers at the front
desk answer inquiries about conservation and political issues, membership
matters, hikes, trips, publications, and meetings. They handle mail, learn
to use the Sierra Club’s website and Chapter database and process donations.
Shift: four hours once a week. Other volunteers support Chapter work with
their skills in QuickBooks Pro, Excel, Access, or Word; learn to use Sierra
Club database to make activist contact lists or research member information;

- Be the live person on the phone: Open slots Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday,
or Friday.
- QuickBooks Pro: Set up the tracking of special projects. Short-term
and sustained help appreciated.
- Grants: Proficiency in Excel a plus. Four hours every two weeks.
- Disposal: Someone to take e-waste to recycle site. Two or three trips
may be required.
Chapter office seeks Conservation Program Coordinator
The Chapter Program Coordinator organizes and implements a major conservation
program, campaign or initiative such as land use management, air/water quality,
wilderness management, transportation planing, wetlands, urban planning,

environmental field, including research, campaign organization, press
relations, and public speaking.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Proficient computer skills (database, graphic design, web)

- Demonstrated ability and effectiveness working with volunteers.
Don't throw away your old refridgerator
According to a recent analysis by the Assembly Environmental Safety and Toxic
Materials Committee, more than 3 million major appliances enter the waste
stream each year. If you’re a Southern California Edison residential
customer, they’ll pay you to haul away your old inefficient refrigerator
or freezer. One call and they’ll take it to the recycling center, and
send you a check for $35. To schedule a free pick up, go to their website www.sce.com/pickup and
fill out the simple form.
Western Spaces, Human Places series
This new series examines the impact that humans have had on the Western environment.
Scholars, community activists, business leaders, and environmentalists discuss
our natural resources’ past, present, and future. Admission to these
programs will be free to Sierra Club members with advance reservations. Members
should call the automated reservation line at 323-667-2000 x354 and mention
they are Sierra Club members. Scheduled panels include:
- Mothering Nature: Are Women Good for the Earth? Saturday, Aug.
6, 2-3:30pm
- Boiling Points: Change in Southern California Environment Saturday,
Sept. 10, 1-2:30pm.
Programs are at Griffith Park. Admission: $10 per panel / free for
