Courses

LTC offers training throughout the year for aspiring Sierra Club leaders and others wishing to improve their skills. We also promote relevant opportunities provided by other groups. We sponsor six types of training: a seminar required for all leader candidates, first aid, navigation, rock, snow and environmental awareness. We also sponsor occasional miscellaneous training outings that don't fit neatly into a specific category.

Through our Advanced Mountaineering Program (AMP), we offer training both for candidates seeking the Angeles Chapter's advanced "M" and "E" ratings and to leaders who already have earned these ratings and want to catch up on the latest techniques.

You can learn and practice your skills at any LTC event. Checkoffs, offered throughout the year, are designated by a (C) in the Level column below. Bookmark this site and check back frequently for new events.

Contact leaders in advance by e-mail or U.S. mail. E-mail links are below; postal addresses are in the Schedule of Activities. Fees are required for some activities and are designated by ($) in the Location column below.

Candidates should keep track of their progress. They also should inform LTC Administrative Chair Bob Draney upon completion of each requirement for their leadership rating. For detailed requirements, please consult the Leader's Reference Book.
