LTC Information Leaders are trained at four levels (O, I, M, E) defined in the Rules of Conduct. The training is initiated with an all day seminar held on a Saturday in the spring and fall (attendance at only one seminar is required). Leader candidates must be current, paid up Sierra Club members, have participated in at least five Sierra Club hikes or trips, and have the technical skill appropriate to the desired level. Leader candidates may obtain enrollment information and applications by sending a large (#10) self-addressed, stamped envelope (sase) to the Registrar. An application and information sheet with an explanation of the ratings and answers to most commonly asked questions will be mailed to you in the sase. The completed application and check for the program fee must be received by the Registrar 2 weeks in advance of the seminar. A leadership reference book, exam, and other materials will be mailed 2 weeks before the exam to all participants. Hence, there is no registration at the door on the day of the seminar. After completing the seminar, leader candidates should send evidence of leadership training's additional requirement accomplishments to the Administrative Chair.
