When you join or give to the Sierra Club you
will have the satisfaction of knowing that you are helping to preserve our
natural resources, save endangered wildlife, and protect the earth we call
home. Your voice will be heard through congressional lobbying and grassroots
action on the environmental issues that matter to you. You will also have the
opportunity to join with other members in the many outings and activities that
can provide you with a heightened enjoyment of the great outdoors.
The Sierra Club is a global organization, divided into Chapters, Groups, Sections, and Committees. Chapters are the largest subdivision of the club, spanning a large geographic area. Groups are geographic subdivisions of the chapter, usually determined by zip code. Sections and Committees are special interest entities of the Chapter, open to all chapter members and often requiring an additional fee to join. An example is the Angeles Chapter's Easy Hikers Committee, which was created to serve members interested in less strenuous hikes than are typically offered by the chapter. If you would like to find out more about the club and local groups, sections, and committees, consider attending one of our New Member's meetings.
When you join the Sierra Club, you'll automatically be assigned to a Chapter and Group based on your zip code. Those who live in the Long Beach, California area will automatically be enrolled in the Angeles Chapter, Long Beach Group. Take a tour of this website to see what the Long Beach group is up to. As a member of the Long Beach group, you'll receive:
Sierra Magazine - published 6 times a year, this magazine contains information about the club's national activities, as well as several national and international outings.
The Schedule of Activities - published 3 times a year, this magazine contains a brief description of the various Groups, Sections, and Committees that comprise the Angeles Chapter. In addition, there are many outings listed in this publication as well as the contact information for many of our leaders.
The Southern Sierran - published monthly, this newspaper contains articles of local interest and outings that might not be published in any other publication (mostly due to missed publishing deadlines). In addition, this publication will occasionally focus on an area of interest such as the Chapter Elections, Conservation, or Outings.
Tidelines - published every other month and delivered as an insert in the Southern Sierran, this is the Long Beach Group's newsletter containing group sponsored outings, conservation events, and articles of local interest. Not all the outings the group sponsors are in the Schedule, but most if not all are published in Tidelines.
