Outings Ratings:
"O" Level applies to a variety of uncomplicated outings (i.e. city walks, bike rides, trail hikes, backpacking.) May involve simple off trail hiking not requiring navigation skills. Climbing level: "Class 1" terrain.
"I" Level includes outings that involve cross-country travel where navigation is necessary. Rougher ground than "O" outings may be traversed, and the use of hands for balance may be necessary. Includes outings that have snow travel or skiing on easy terrain. Climbing level: "Class 2" terrain.
"M"Level includes moderate level climbing: "Class 3" terrain. On rock, the hands are used for climbing. Some participants may want a safety belay. On snow, safety dictates the use of axes and the ability to self-arrest.
Long Beach Rideshare Point -- Atherton St. at Fanwood/Meriam Way Signal. Go South on Meriam Way, take the first right and park down by the recycling center. This lot is free on Sat, Sun only.
Pomona Rideshare Point -- Towne Ave. exit from San Bernardino Freeway (I-10), South 1/2 block, park along curb.
La Canada Rideshare Point -- Angeles Crest Highway (Hwy. 2), Just North of Foothill Freeway (I-210). Park on Angeles Crest Highway only.

In the interests of facilitating the logistics of some outings, it is customary that participants make carpooling arrangements. The Sierra Club does not have insurance for carpooling arrangements and assumes no liability for them. Carpooling, ride sharing or anything similar is strictly a private arrangement among the participants. Participants assume the risks associated with this travel.
You might want to consider participating in our conditioning hikes prior to participating in any outing.

APR 5 SAT C: Whale Watching:Rescheduled from March 15. Come see the annual gray whale migration off our coast on a Saturday morning! We will leave out of Redondo Beach and will be out in the ocean for 2 ½ to 3 hours. The cost will be $20. This whale watch trip is a fundraiser for the Sierra Club-Long Beach Group. APR 12 SAT O: TRIPPET RANCH TO EAGLE ROCK (1957'). Join us on this moderate pace, 6 Mile, 1000' gain hike in the Santa Monica mountains. We'll meander our way up via Musch Camp to Eagle Junction. From there we'll take the fire road the long way around to Eagle Rock, where we'll stop for lunch and take in the beautiful views. We'll return on a more direct route to Trippet Ranch. APR 12-13 SAT-SUN I: TEJON RANCH, WIND WOLVES, UNNAMED PK (5152'). Enjoy pine forests and the picturesque high country of our San Emigdio Range and the grasslands of Wind Wolves. We will be immersing ourselves into an environment that is very similar to Tejon Ranch, by visiting the Wind Wolves Preserve. We will tour the proposed development areas, as well as the highly unique areas within Wind Wolves. We may see deer, elk, raptors, flowers, rock art, more. Take time to learn from our naturalists about the fauna and flora, help us plan the next stages in our goal to create a new state or national park. Lots of driving. Some easy hiking. We'll carcamp at Wind Wolves for one night, so bring your best potluck items, ideas (become an integral part of the campaign). Group size limited to 30. APR 19 SAT O: UPPER NEWPORT BACK BAY ECOLOGICAL RESERVE HIKE. Easy paced 6 mi rt to enjoy nature, bird watch, learn about a variety of habitats, review some local history, enjoy some good food at the Back Bay Cafe and have a good time. Reasonably flat terrain with stops for photo shoots. Meet at East Bluff Drive and the top of Back Bay Drive off of Jamboree at 8:45 AM. Bring binoculars, camera, $ for lunch, water and sun protection. Lug sole shoes suggested. APR 19 SAT O: MALIBU CREEK STATE PARK LOOP. Come loop around Malibu Creek State Park on a 14 Mile, 2600 foot, moderately paced, strenuous hike. Sounds like fun, doesn't it? Most of the tough stuff will be done in the first 5 miles Beautiful ocean vistas plus incredible rock formations abound. We'll lunch at the site where M*A*S*H was filmed. APR 22 TUE O: JOHN MUIR BIRTHDAY/HIKE. Celebrate the 168th birthday of the Sierra Club’s founder with both an energizing hike on Signal Hill and a party at the top. Meet at Hill St and Redondo Av at 7pm with a snack or beverage to share. Participate in our standing conditioning hike or meet us at Signal Hill’s Hilltop Park (Panorama Drive and Dawson Av) for a potluck party @ 8 pm. APR 26 SAT O: SANTA ANA RIVER TO THE BEACH. Please join us for a seven-mile, virtually no elevation gain hike through Fairview Park to the Talbert Nature Preserve and on to Banning Ranch and the beach. Learn about the history of this area and importance of preserving this sensitive and endangered ecosystem as part of an proposed park/nature center designed to provide an "oasis of tranquility" near the confluence of the Santa Ana River and the ocean. Meet at 9:00 a.m. at Fairview Park, Costa Mesa (405 Fwy to Harbor-south, right on Adams, left on Placentia, right after approximately 1/4 mile into the Fairview Park parking lot-parking is free). Calif's 2nd-highest peak. Sat, comfortably paced trail hike from South Fork to base camp, 6.5 mi, 2600' gain. Sun bag Charlton via class 3 route then hike the others, 2 mi cross country, 2300' gain. JULY 12 SAT O:SOUTH FORK MEADOW. Moderate paced hike in the San Gorgonio Wilderness. 9 miles, 1,300' elevation gain. Trail winds through lush ferns and wildflowers. On return, we will stop at Lost Creek for lunch, surrounded by beautiful plants and flowers. Wear lug sole shoes and bring 10 essentials, including 2 liters water, sunscreen and hat.
