What's Involved
Volunteers are welcome to join any ICO outing. Assistance is always needed and appreciated!
Volunteers accompany the hikes, interacting with the kids and supporting the leader. No prior experience is necessary, just a desire to help out and have fun!

General Hike Logistics
Hikes occur throughout the week, but mostly on Saturdays. Although there are some longer hikes and overnite trips, most hikes run from about 9am to 2pm and are approximately 1.5 to 4 miles in length. Volunteers typically meet leaders at the trailhead or carpool there with them.

What to Bring and Wear
Depending upon the weather, you should wear shorts or long pants, shirt and jacket, hat with a brim, and sturdy walking shoes—hikings boots are generally not necessary, but may make the hike more comfortable. You should bring 2 quarts of water, lunch, suncreen, sunglasses, and daypack. You may also wish to bring a whistle, camera, frisbee, ball, or nature books.

Current Hike Scheduling
For safety reasons, the schedule of hikes is posted only in our monthly bulletins and newsletter, Pathways. These publications contain a schedule of current outings with contact information for leaders. Once you attend a monthly meeting or email us, we can provide you with more information.

Becoming a Leader
You may continue as a volunteer indefinitely. However, we hope you will enjoy what we are doing, come to meetings, and become an Outings leader yourself. Jump to the Info for Leaders page!
