DRIVING ROUTE 1

  • Take I-10 east past San Bernardino to the Orange Street exit (SR 38).

  • Continue on SR 38 another 2.5 miles to Thurman Flats Picnic Area on the right. Park where convenient.

HIKING ROUTE 1

  • From the picnic area (3500'), follow the Mill Creek streambed east for one mile, looking for a concrete slab jutting jutting from south creek bank and a gully coming to the creek bed at the hillside on your right (south). A track leads up to a ledge along some pipes. Scramble up to the ledge.
  • Go west on a trail about 100' passing the concrete slab. Here the trail enters a relatively open steep gully which goes south.
  • Ascend this gully. Take the right branch at major forks. Continue up to a firebreak at 4640'. (Mark your position carefully when exiting the gully, so you find it on the way back.)
  • Go up the firebreak to the aqueduct trail.
  • Go right (southwest) on this trail to where it intersects a road on the ridge.
  • Turn left on this road and follow it east to near its high point at the base of Allen Peak.
  • Turn right (south) and go up a use trail to the summit.
