The Sierra Club has long opposed the current, worrisome trend for land management agencies to charge fees to access the public lands that have traditionally been free for visitors. Please read this urgent action item about getting rid of fees.

Our Purposes

To encourage our members to explore and enjoy the mountains of Southern California and to become familiar with their scenic resources
To stimulate interest in climbing these ranges
To preserve their forests, waters, wildlife, and wildernesses
To enlist public interest and cooperation in protecting them
To foster among our members the purposes of the Sierra Club.

Road Closures Many of the roads we use to reach our peaks were damaged or destroyed during the wet winter of 2004/2005. Some (Highway 2) are still closed. Some road status links:
