Russell Peak

6696'

Russell Peak is located in Kern County, about 45 miles north of Mojave, 140 miles from Los Angeles. It lies within the Owens Peak Wilderness. The peak was named by HPS in 1999 for Bill T. Russell (1921-97), an active leader and member of both HPS and Angeles Chapter. See the Summit Signature for more history and some background about the name of the peak.

Peak Guides
HPS has one current documented route to the peak. Route 1 is 6 miles round trip with a total of 2700' of gain. It starts near Walker Pass and follows a dirt road to the nose of a ridge, then ascends the ridge to the rocky summit.

Older Peak Guides (routes may no longer be legal or safe, use caution!): 2000, and Microsoft Word version from 2002.
