About Andy's Presentation:
From discovering the wonders of desert peaks beginning in college, to discovering today the wonders of water in the desert and the ecosystems sustained by that water, the presentation will touch on desert peaking but will focus on the pressures our desert is facing ecologically, and the exciting water resources research in the region being conducted to better understand the desert environment and lead to smarter, long-term management and decision-making.
Andy Zdon is author of the guidebook "Desert Summits: A Climbing and Hiking Guide to California and Southern Nevada". He ascended his first desert peak, little-known Barber Point in the East Mojave in 1980 and followed up with a snowy ascent of Telescope Peak in 1981. Peaks, peaks and more weekends and years later, Andy is researching the water resources of the California and Nevada desert. With more than 25 years of experience in geology and hydrogeology, Andy is also a California Professional Geologist, Certified Hydrogeologist and Certified Engineering Geologist. In 2013 he was also appointed watermaster of surface water system in the Eastern Sierra by the Inyo County Superior Court.
