GIS Data Suit

The Angeles Chapter of the Sierra Club filed suit on April 21, 2009 against Orange County, to obtain GIS Land Parcel Information under the California Public Records Act. Our attorneys in the case are Sabrina Venskus, from Venskus & Associates, P.C. and Dean Wallraff, from the California Public records Access Project. This is an important lawsuit, because the outcome may determine the rights of citizens state-wide to obtain computer data files under the Public Records Act. Both the trial court and the Court of Appeal ruled against the Sierra Club, but on Sep. 14, 2011 the California Supreme Court agreed to review the case, and the Club has a very good chance of ultimately prevailing. See our press release online.
