Centennial
Just as our forebears celebrated a successful climb in the high sierra with famed mountineer Norman Clyde in the summer of 1931, we will party it up with famed climbers and Chapter leaders at the Centennial Celebration Picnic in Malibu on July 16.
Angeles Chapter Archives

All Chapter members are invited to our Centennial Picnic on July 16, a once-in-a-century gathering to celebrate the Angeles Chapter's upcoming 100th birthday. We promise to fill you up with good food, recognition for all your Chapter leaders past and present, and plenty of nostalgia and good cheer.

Come and see famed mounteers and rock climbing pioneers such as Glen Dawson and Royal Robbins, historic multimedia presentations in our clubhouse theater, and enjoy a day of socializing and activities with your fellow Sierrans under the pleasent skies of Malibu Nature Preserve, or cross the Pacific Coase Highway to enjoy the tidepools and sands of Nicholas Canyon County Beach.

As another treat, Preserve Director Peter Ireland will exhibit his vsst collection of vintage camping hiking gear and clothing in the clubhouse and on the grounds. This will be a unique opportunity to see how our forebears kitted themselves up for their forays into the wilderness.

The real emphasis of the day, however will be our Picnic for Posterity Theme in which all Chapter members past and especially the present will be given recognition. Throughout the day, still and video photographers will be circulating among the crowds to create an image album to bequeath to future generations of Southern Sierrans. So come prepared to share your favorite stories and anecdotes from Sierra Club adventures and conservation activities.

After our catered barbeque lunch, we will commence with the 'Roll Call of Chapter Entites,' in which each of the major groups, sections, task forces, and committees will be acknowledged, with leaders and members asked to come forward and pose for group portraits, If you have ever led or participated in Chapter activities in any capacity this is your opportunity to permanently put a face to your name as it has appeared in Chapter publications over the years.

With so much to see and do, plan on coming early (9:00 a.m) and staying most of the day (4 p.m.). Bask in the glory of the past and become inspired for our next century.

Admission price is $20 per adult and $10 for children under 12. Send a self-addressed stamped envelope with your check made out to 'Sierra Club' to Elizabeth Pomeroy, 2111 E. Mountain St, Pasadena, CA 91104-4130. A map to the Malibu Nature wIll be included with the tickets.
