APRIL 21  CO-SPONSOR 20’S & 30’S SINGLES

O: POINT MUGU STATE PARK HIKE:  Slow paced 9 mile hike (1000’ gain) starting at Sycamore Canyon Campground in Point Mugu State Park. The first 3.7 miles will be a mainly flat walk through sycamore shaded fire road.  Then, we will hike on the Overlook Fire Road for some stunning views of the ocean and mountains.  After the hike, those who want can head over across the street to enjoy a picnic lunch on the beach.  Meet at Sycamore Canyon Campground in Point Mugu State Park at 8am.  State Parks Pass allows you to park for free at campground, otherwise it is $12, or you can park on the street.  Rain cancels hike. O: SANTA CRUZ , REDWOOD & CENTRAL COAST MEMORIAL DAY LODGE BUS TRIP:  Not a backpack. Leave Friday afternoon for 3 days of sightseeing & moderately paced 5-6 mile hikes  - no beginners - in the beautiful groves of Big Basin Redwoods & Henry Cowell Redwoods State Parks inc Sempervirens Falls. We will visit Año Nuevo State Reserve - home to elephant seals, otters, shore birds. We will also visit Natural Bridges State Beach & many interesting coastal areas along the Central Coast. Our motel in Santa Cruz is a close walk to the Boardwalk & pier for added sightseeing, shopping, & dining at one of the many seaside restaurants. Price for SC members $475 (Non-members $525) per person with 2 persons per room. Skyline to the Sea trail takes us through spring wildflowers, by waterfalls, and into a fern forest beneath majestic Sempervirens. 6 mi, 1,000 ft gain Sat to Sunset Camp. Sun bk 6mi down to Twin Redwoods Camp. Mon return to bus at Pacific Ocean. Bring goodies and salad items for our legendary happy hour! Enjoy moderate hikes (4 -7 mi/500-1,500 gain/loss) in Kokee State Park. Hike Alakai Swamp, Pahia Lookout; Awaiawipu Trail to views of the canyon and NaPali coast 4000’ below.   Leave LA Saturday afternoon for a moderate 3 day backpack.   Starting from Tuolumne Meadows on this 21 mile backpack with 2,700’ Gain and Loss.  Our first day we will backpack in the beautiful Lyell Canyon with many peaks in view.  Our next day takes us in higher country past Evelyn Lake to the Vogelsang Lake area where we will camp two nights.   On your free day you will have time to explore around the area or relax at camp.   Our last day takes us back to Tuolumne Meadows.      NO BEGINNERS. I/ YOSEMITE ADVENTURES- BUS BASED BACKPACKING TRIP TO YOUNG LAKES AND MT. CONNESS (12,590'):  Leave Sat afternoon on our luxury bus for beautiful Yosemite!  Start our backpacking adventures in Tuolumne Meadows on Sun for a moderate paced 7 mi / 1700 gain to Young Lakes (10,000') and set up our base camp (Sun-Wed). I/ YOSEMITE TUOLUMNE MEADOWS-MATTIE LAKE -WILDCAT PT (9562’) BACKPACKING TRIP: -Leave Sat afternoon by bus for a moderate 5-day trip. We will start from Tuolumne Meadows and backpack 6 mi to Glen Aulin High Sierra Camp. Various day hikes on and off trail to Mattie Lake, Wildcat Point, and multiple waterfalls. Elevation gain for the trip is approximately 3,200 ft. Trip will include walking on granite slab, bouldering, and enjoying beautiful Yosemite. This trip is permit restricted. Fee includes bus ride, park entrance and permit fees and Wed dinner.  Please mail a check payable to the Sierra Club in the amount of $220 and a self address stamped envelope, your backpacking and conditioning experience to David Meltzer. O:  YOSEMITE NATIONAL PARK, HETCH HETCHY:
  Challenging 34 mile, 4000’ gain backpack through the western section of Yosemite National Park north of the Tioga Road.  This loop trip will start at the O’Shaugnessy Dam at Hetch Hetchy, head north east up to Tiltill Valley, north to Jack Main Canyon with stops at Andrews Lake and Laurel Lake before ending back at the dam.  A low altitude backpack (mostly below 8000’) to avoid another heavy winter snowfall; this should prove exciting and restful as we traverse through the little visited area often compared to Yosemite Valley around Hetch Hetchy.  Send check for $50 (refundable at trailhead) payable to the Sierra Club Backpacking Section, 2 SASE, H & W phones and recent backpacking experience/conditioning and carpool info to LEADER:   MARK JACOBS CO-LEADER:  TIM LUZZI

O:  SEQUOIA NATIONAL PARK BACKPACK
Challenging 52 mile short shuttle trip, 4000’ gain backpack through the western Sierra’s starting at Wolverton Trailhead and ending at Lodgepole Trailhead.    We’ll head east on the Lakes Trail towards Bearpaw High Sierra Camp and visit Tamarack Lake, cross over Elizabeth Pass, continue north through Deadman’s Canyon to the Roaring River Ranger Station; back east through Sugarloaf Meadow; turn south over Silliman Pass and back out at Lodgepole.  We’ll camp at beautiful Tamarack Lake; spend a few days in the secluded and beautiful Deadman’s Canyon, rest at Ranger Lake and camp along numerous streams and meadows along the way.  Magnificent lakes and streams, beautiful vistas and unparalleled beauty are promised on this trek that will provide you with years of memories of both the grandeur of the Sierras and the challenge of the adventure.  Send check for $50 (refundable at trailhead) payable to the Sierra Club Backpacking Section, 2 SASE, H & W phones and recent backpacking experience/conditioning and carpool info to LEADER:   MARK JACOBS CO-LEADER:  TIM LUZZI

Join us as we hike & sightsee at spectacular Mammoth Lakes. No beginners - Moderate 5-6 mile day hikes. Beautiful view hikes include Horseshoe Lake to Reds Meadow, Devils Postpile NM & Rainbow Falls. Relax at night with dining & self-guided evening walks. Space is very limited. Spend Labor Day weekend among the beautiful lakes and peaks of the Ansel Adams Wilderness. Leave LA area Friday for Mammoth Lakes. Sat hike to base camp at Garnet Lake, 6 mi, 2000’ gain. Sun climb 10,344 via class 2 route, then explore Thousand Island Lake basin, 7 mi, 1100’ gain. Monday hike out to return home. No turtles, no tigers. Sat hike from Agnew Mdws via High Trail to Thousand Island Lake, 11.5 mi, 1800' gain. Move 9 mi to Lake Ediza on Sun and explore area. Monday hike out 6 mi. Moderately strenuous climb first day, smaller ups and downs 2nd day. Email leader with recent conditioning and experience and contact information or send 2 SASE with check and info.
