NOVEMBER 5 - 8   THURSDAY-SUNDAY         
O:  GRAND CANYON - HAVASUPAI BACKPACK BUS TRIP: 
You’ll be captivated and enchanted by the beautiful blue-green water that flows over 3 waterfalls:  Navajo 75’, Havasu 100’, and Mooney 200’ Falls.  Be adventurous on the Sat. optional hike to Colorado River with possible waterfalls and swimming on the way.  Plus, camp next to the river, swim in the 70o water, enjoy the Supai Indian Village with a general store and café, and enjoy fantastic scenery.  Leave LA Thurs. evening for the overnight bus ride, on Fri. am backpack 10 mi./ 2800’ loss, return to bus Sun. by noon 10 mi./ 2800’ gain.  Cost includes bus, camp & entrance fee, Sun. dinner, bus refreshments.  Send 2 SASE, h&w phones, SC#, Check (Sierra Club) for $270 with SC#/$295 non-member, email, recent backpack experience & conditioning to LEADER:  TOM MARSH   ASSISTANT LEADER:

O: HAVASU CANYON-SUPAI VILLAGE BUS TRIP:
Leave LA Thu evening 10 pm from West Covina for 3 days of hiking.  Stay in remote Havasupai Lodge, 8 miles from bus drop-off pt., in motel style rooms in the Havasupai Indian village.  Must be able to hike 8 miles., 2000 foot loss on Fri & 2000 foot gain by noon Sun with daypack of personal gear.  Enjoy spectacular turquoise waterfalls, variety of hikes, swimming & photography. : Leave Los Angeles Friday afternoon for 3-day moderate  level backpack in Point Reyes National; Seashore. Friday night at 4 Diamond Hyatt SF Area hotel; Saturday full Hyatt buffet breakfastBackpack with ocean vistas. Monday return to bus. Exact  route (mileage and elevation gains/losses) and campsites subject to permit availability late Feburary. Bring veggie to toss into our potluck salad, and happy hour goodies to share. O: POINT REYES, MUIR WOODS & SAN FRANCISCO MEMORIAL DAY 4DIAMOND SF HOTEL BUS TRIP: Not a backpack.  Leave LA Friday afternoon for 3 days of sightseeing and day hiking at Point Reyes National Seashore, Muir Woods National Monument, and San Francisco’s Presidio.   Point Reyes offers some of the finest birdwatching opportunities in the U.S. with nearly 470 species observed.  See one of the largest concentrations of Tule Elk in California with about 400 at Point Reyes.   Spend your nights in the luxurious AAA 4 Diamond Hyatt Regency Hotel at SFO airport.  Includes full buffet breakfast each morning, beautifully appointed modern rooms, and full hotel services for a motel price.  Convenient shuttles to BART where you can have dinner and spend evening in downtown SF or locally.  Great trip to pamper yourself & visit some of CA’s best coastal areas.  Prices for SC members are $475 per person with 2 persons per room. O: 35th ANNUAL HAWAIIAN ISLANDS BACKPACK, THE BIG ISLAND: 3 day/2 night backpack (600 foot loss) descends into North Kohala coastal rainforest for beach camp. Layover day hike to explore the Kohala Ditch Trail. Exit backpack (600 foot gain). Two nights rooms at HoloHolo Inn adjacent to Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. Visit Thurston Lava Tube, Thomas Jagger Volcano Observatory, and evening lava viewing (Pele permitting). One night cabin at Kalopa State Park, and two nights condo or hotel in Kailua - Kona. Snorkel/swim at picturesque beach. Meals cooked group commissary style - all help with duties. Cost:  $1245 w/SC# / $1370 non-mem before April 1; April 1-June 1 $1370/$1507; after June 1 $1507/$1658. O: SUNRISE LAKES BASIN YOSEMITE BACKPACKING BUS:  Leave LA Fri afternoon for a moderate 3 day backpack .   Starting from the Tioga Pass Road near Tenaya Lake we will go to the Sunrise Lakes on this 8 mile roundtrip backpack.   (1,700’ elevation gain & 200’ loss first day).    We will have a layover day where it is possible to hike to the top of Clouds Rest or other places on your own.   Return by same route.  NO BEGINNERS. O: YOSEMITE NORTH RIM BUS BACKPACKING TRIP:   Leave Friday afternoon for a moderate 3 day trip from Porcupine Flat to see some of the most magnificent vistas from the North Rim of Yosemite National Park.  View Half Dome, Clouds Rest, Glacier Point, Yosemite Falls and many more important Yosemite Viewpoints from vantages not seen from roads at such points as North Dome, Yosemite Pt, and the top of Yosemite Falls. over 3000’ above the valley floor.  The backpack is 15 miles with a 1,700’ gain, 5,800’ loss from Porcupine Flat to Yosemite Lodge.  NO BEGINNERS. Join us as we enjoy day hiking, sightseeing with opportunities for bike rides, river floating, photography and other activities in spectacular Yosemite National Park. No beginners. Leave Friday afternoon, return Monday evening. Moderate hiking with great views in Yosemite Valley area & possibly Tuolumne Meadows.  Relax in evening with ranger led programs and dining opportunities in Yosemite Valley. Space is very limited.
