Sept 28 (Sun) Mt. Baden Powell, 9399 ft
(O) This is an eight-mile round trip with a 2400-ft gain. Join us for a
hike to the summit named in honor of the man who founded the Boy Scouts.
Meet at Palmdale Park & Ride
at 8:00 a.m. sharp or at Vincent Gap parking lot at 9:00 a.m. The
theme this year will be "chocolate," which should provide an interesting
potluck on the summit. Leader: Vern Benhart, co-leader: Charlie Brown.
October 12 (Sun) Local Bike Ride
(O) Since I cannot remember our last group bike ride, I have planned one
for October. The fun will begin at my house, 2846 W. Ave K4, at
10:00am. We will ride from here to Ave L, then west to 90th St.
West, north to Ave. G and east to Apollo Park for a split break and a
little rest before pedaling south on 30th St. West back to my house.
Total distance will be about 22 miles. Don't fret, we will peddle along
at a comfortable pace.
Please bring something to share with your friends for an after-ride
Potluck and Hot tub/Pool Party.
Now for the important stuff: be sure to carry enough water for the ride
and wear a helmet to protect your precious noggin. Leader: Tom Shaffer,
co-leader to be announced.
Oct 31-Nov 2 (Fri eve-Sunday) Conglomerate Mesa
Exploration/Car camp
(O) Come with us and explore this little visited, wilderness-quality area
near the western edge of Death Valley National Park. We will meet Friday
evening and car-caravan to our camping location. Strenuous hike on
Saturday followed by evening social and potluck. Shorter hike on Sunday.
Drive to campsite requires high clearance vehicle, carpooling at meeting
point may be possible. Leader Kate Allen, co-leader Nate Krumm.
Dec 6 - 7 (Sat-Sun) Wilderness Restoration in
Death Valley National Park
(O) Work project in Middle Park/South Park area of the Panamint
Mountains. Main objective is to help obscure old vehicle routes by
installing wilderness restoration signs and using rock or vertical mulch.
If there are enough participants, we would also help to clear up trash
and debris from the vicinity of a couple of the old cabins in the South
Park area. Park will supply some of the required 4x4 transportation.
Camping overnight in area, happy hour/potluck on Saturday night. Leader:
Kate Allen, co-leader Nate Krumm.
