December 6 (Sunday) Liebre Mountain
(O) Join me for my provisional hike on Liebre Mountain, with beautiful
views of the Tehachapis and the Antelope Valley. A steady climb, 1,700'
elevation gain, about 7 miles round trip. Well-behaved dogs welcome.
Social pace; no tigers, please. Meet at the Avenue K Park and Ride in Lancaster at
8:00am; we will need to carpool due to restricted parking. Bring
water, lunch, lugsoled shoes, Adventure Pass. Rain or snow cancels.
Leader: Ruth Gravance, co-leader: Vern Benhart.
Saturday, December 12, Ripley Trail Work
(O) We will meet at 10:00am at Ripley State Park, located on
Lancaster Road between 205th St. West and 210th St. West. Bring lunches,
water, gloves and hats. If you have them, bring "grubbing" tools (rakes, hoes, shovels, etc.), as we will be removing desert shrubs from the
marked trail. Leader: Milt Stark, assistant leader: Vern Benhart.
December 13 (Sunday) Holiday Potluck
Brunch (in lieu of December meeting)
Join us for a festive afternoon of cheer at our annual Holiday Potluck
Brunch. Bring a potluck item to share with the party, and a new,
unwrapped toy for a child or something for a teenager. Liz O’Brien will
deliver the gifts to the Children’s Bureau store, where parents who are
participating in one of the Bureau’s programs can select gifts for their
children. The party is always a good time. We catch up with old friends
we haven’t seen for a while and meet new ones. Party starts at 11:00
am at Nate and Kate’s house (see the
Creosote Chronicle for
details).
January 22-24 (Friday-Sunday) Wilderness Restoration
in Death Valley
(O) Help protect Death Valley National Park from abuse by illegal
off-road traffic. This wilderness restoration project along the park's
scenic eastern boundary in the Amargosa Valley involves the
installation of signs, raking out of vehicle tracks and moving rocks.
Meet late Friday afternoon or early Saturday morning, work Saturday and
part of the day on Sunday. Camping Friday and Saturday night will be in
a Park Service camping area (portable toilets, but no water). Leader:
Kate Allen, co-leader Nate Krumm. Co-sponsored by the CNRCC Desert
Committee.
