Air Quality, Global Warming and Energy CommitteeThe Committee has chosen three campaigns for 2004. More may be added as we find talented available volunteers to work on them and able to commit a number of hours on a monthly basis toward the committee’s collective goals. If you have research, graphics, writing or web skills to put together materials for students as well as adults consider joining us. For more information or to see how you can make a difference in air quality, global warming and energy related issues, call Jan Kidwell at (818) 506-8731Our objective is to make a measurable difference in the quality of the air in southern California this year. We have three subcommittees working on:
The Committee works to reduce air pollution from diesel vehicles, to support zero-emission vehicles, and to support strong regulation of toxic pollution, as well as to promote strong pollution prevention efforts that seek non-polluting alternatives to toxic pollutants. The committee is also working to educate the public about the dangers of Global Warming; to build support for higher fuel economy requirements for cars, SUVs, and light trucks; and to promote energy efficiency and investment in renewable energy sources like solar, wind and geothermal power. For instance, the public outreach campaign, 10 to 22 Things You Can Do
For Clean Air depends on who you are and how much responsibility you have.
Students can control how much electricity they use, and make buying and
transportation decisions that can conserve energy. A car owner can affect
emission of pollutants more directly by choosing to drive a fuel-economy
vehicle with better mileage efficiency. Both students and car owners can
look for opportunities to bike ride, walk, combine errands into one trip,
and car pool. Homeowners can buy garden equipment such as an electric
lawn mower instead of gasoline, but all members of the household can use
appliances in their home after 7:00 pm to conserve energy. |
