DENIS BERTONE FOR SAN DIMAS CITY COUNCIL

Denis Bertone is running for his 6th term as a San Dimas City Councilmember. He first won election in 1988 when he ran on an environmental platform

Bertone is President and Co-Founder of the Coalition to Preserve Bonelli County Regional Park. The park lies within the City of San Dimas. He successfully fought efforts by Los Angeles County to commercially develop this 2,000 acre park, which is predominately open space and wilderness for passive recreational use. This group still monitors activity in Bonelli Park.

The Sierra Club honored Bertone twice with their Conservation Service Award for his efforts to preserve open space in the San Gabriel Valley.

Bertone is Vice Chairperson of the Energy, Environment and Natural Resources Committee of the San Gabriel Valley Council of Governments. He also serves as Vice-Chair of the Metro Foothill Goldline Joint Powers Authority, whose goal is to extend the Goldline from Pasadena to the Ontario Airport.

Bertone was appointed to the Rivers and Mountains Conservancy (RMC) by the California State Senate. In 2008 he secured an 8.25 million dollar grant to purchase 60 acres adjacent to Walnut Creek Wilderness Park. The land had been slated for a housing development.

The Sierra Club has endorsed him in all of his elections. The election will be held on March 3, 2009. Feel free to contact Denis Bertone at (909) 599-7431 or E-mail him at DDBertone@aol.com.
