Open Spaces, Wild Places Campaign

Sierra Club Links All Orange County Open Space Campaigns

Tract homes are covering the green hills of Orange County. We are losing the wild areas one subdivision at a time. Often we find ourselves up against the same group of decision makers. The Sierra Club has united all our Orange County open space campaigns under one banner: the Open Spaces, Wild Places Campaign has been born!

This campaign is more than just a coalition of Sierra Club task forces. We need to treat all Orange County wild lands as one issue. True, there are many different property owners and developers, but the public and the decision makers seem to be far apart. People moved to Orange County for some breathing room. Politicians seem to be unable to say no to the developers who want to pave over the entire county.

The idea was born out of a desire for our Sierra Club Task Forces to build a more united front and help be involved in one another’s campaigns. We need to be able to refer to each other more often when talking to officials and media. We believe that it will be help to strengthen the battles we are currently fighting as well as unite campaigns working on contiguous land preservation into one!

The goal of the campaign is to succeed in saving open spaces in Orange County. Outreach is key and will be our most important task. There are three critical functions of this campaign:
