Preservation of the Ballona Wetlands

For more information, please contact Roy van de Hoek at (818) 222-7456 or John Armer at  (310) 452-4946.

The Ballona Wetlands Task Force works for the CPR (Conservation, Preservation & Restoration) of the entire Ballona Wetlands ecosystem.

We have convened citizen town hall meetings with our allies to educate the public about the benefits of protecting the wetlands, as opposed to the detrimental impacts of constructing a massive city (Playa Vista) atop the historical delta floodplain of the Los Angeles River.

This fall the State of California approved a purchase agreement that will facilitate approximately 623 acres of marshlands being owned by the public, ready for restoration, including a major effort to reconnect the water with the land.

Besides being involved with the restoration efforts, this Task Force will now concentrate on protection and public acquisition of another approximately 250-300 acres east of the current Playa Vista construction project.  Our vision is to protect and restore this part of Ballona as the Ballona Centinela Creek Park, as opposed to planned development that will add tons of air pollution, stormwater runoff and traffic gridlock to the region each day.
