In the interests of facilitating the logistics of some outings, it is customary that participants make voluntary carpooling arrangements. The Sierra Club does not have insurance for carpooling arrangements and assumes no liability for them. Carpooling, ride sharing or anything similar is strictly a private arrangement among participants. Participants assume the risks associated with this travel.

AUG 21-22 SAT-SUN * Hundred Peaks / 20s & 30s / WAS
I: PAMELA'S BIRTHDAY BACKPACK TO CORNELL PEAK (9750'), JEAN PEAK (10,670'), MARION MTN (10,320'), DRURY PEAK (10,160'), FOLLY PEAK (10,480') & SAN JACINTO PEAK (10,804')

Two of these peaks were named after the true loves of Edmund Taylor Perkins, Jr ... while we may not find our true love this weekend, we will have fun enjoying nature & celebrating my 35th birthday. After we take the Palm Springs tram ($21 round trip), we'll hike to Round Valley Camp and then to Cornell Peak for a total of 4 miles, 1400' gain (trail & xc). We'll continue our journey on Sunday with the remaining peaks (depending on conditions) for 10 miles, 3200' gain (trail & xc). Party hats and favors optional. Permit limits group size so reserve early. Send esase (preferred) or sase with H&W #s & recent backpacking/conditioning experience to Leader: PAMELA ROWE Co-Leader: SANDY SPERLING.

Aug 28-29    Sat - Sun    Sierra Singles/20s&30s
O: Dinky Creek/Shaver Lake Carcamp

Enjoy lakeside views, water sports, & deluxe happy hours at a private,
forested campground east of Fresno on a tributary of the King's River.
Options include conducted tour (1000' underground) of environmentally
friendly power plant, dayhike to glaciated Dinky Creek, swimming,
fishing, boating (add'l. fees not included). Bring swimsuit, tent,
sleeping bag, and other standard carcamping creature comforts. Arrive
after 4 PM Friday, depart by noon Sunday. Limited onsite parking. To
reserve send $60 memb/$65 non-member (payable to Sierra Singles), SC #,

Oct 15 - 17  2004 * FRI-SUN
O:  CAR CAMP TO TELESCOPE PEAK,  HIGHEST POINT IN PANAMINT MOUNTAINS

Join us as we hike to the highest peak in Death Valley National Park at 11,000'. This trip starts with camping at the 4000' level on Friday and doing the 14 mi rt, 3000' gain hike on Sat. Optional lower peak on Sunday. Temperatures are expected to be in the 80's at campground and 60's on the trail.Trip includes happy hour and Saturday night pasta dinner. OCT 16 SAT * Hundred Peaks / 20s & 30s / WAS
I: SAN RAFAEL PEAK (6640')

Although this peak was named for a saint, you need not be one to join us on this hike near Frazier Park. Expect a strenuous 10 mile, 2700' gain with some trail and some cross-country bushwhacking/bush-hugging. Not recommended for beginners. OCT 16 SAT * ANGELES CHAPTER
LEADERSHIP TRAINING PROGRAM

The Leadership Training Program (LTP) is conducted by the Leadership
Training Committee (LTC) and provides trainees with the attitude,
knowledge and skill essential to sound leadership of Angeles Chapter
outings. Leader candidates may obtain an application either by sending a
large (#10) self-addressed, stamped envelope (SASE) to the Registrar or
by forwarding a hard copy of the application below to the Registrar. The
fee for the LTP is $25 including the LRB and $10 without the LRB*. The
Registrar must receive the completed application at least two weeks
prior to the seminar. The seminar is held twice a year on a Saturday in
the spring and fall. A Leadership Reference Book (LRB), pre-seminar
exam, and other information will be mailed at least 10 days prior to the

DEC 19 SUN * 20s & 30s
O: 2ND ANNUAL "CANDY CANE LANE" WALK & TALK

We had so much fun last year...why not join us this year? The malls are
going to be packed today. Avoid the crowds, save money and come out and
participate in the festivities of the holidays while getting some
exercise and meeting new people. There is little to no elevation gain
and we'll hike for 1.5 to 2 hours. Bring water, snacks, a warm jacket,
gloves, a hat (to keep warm), good walking shoes (no hiking boots) and
holiday cheer. Rain Cancels. If anyone is interested we'll go for
coffee/tea/snacks afterwards. We'll meet at the Woodland Hills carpool
point at 6 pm. Leaders: Pamela Rowe, Regan Lau, Petra Pearce, and Silvia
Darie.

 FEB 18-21 FRI-MON * 20s & 30s
O: PRESIDENT'S DAY WEEKEND CARCAMP IN DEATH VALLEY

This is no ordinary desert! Death Valley National Park has more than 3.3
million acres of spectacular desert scenery, interesting and rare desert
wildlife, complex geology, undisturbed wilderness, and sites of
historical & cultural interest. Bounded on the west by 11,049 Telescope
Peak and on the east by 5,475 Dante's View, Badwater is the lowest point
(-282' below sea level) in the western hemisphere. Hike to Zabriskie
Point, sand dune's, Scotty's Castle, valley tour, and ghost towns are
some of the planned excursions. Cost includes one dinner and happy hour
